UK number porting: a practical guide

Most UK geographic 01/02, national 03, freephone 0800/0808, and non-geographic 08x numbers may be portable. Eligibility depends on the number, current provider, and range holder, so check before cancelling the old service.

Prepare your request

Have the number, service address, account reference, current provider, and a recent bill ready. The details must match the losing provider's records. DIDcomms coordinates the request and agrees a cut-over date with the current provider.

Geographic and 03 ports commonly take around 5–10 working days when records are correct. Freephone and non-geographic requests can take longer. Keep the old service active until the port is complete, then test inbound calls, caller ID, voicemail, and routing.

Start a porting request or compare number plans.
