The UK will remain under EU laws for an additional 21 months after Brexit. Brexit secretary Dominic Raab told MPs that maintaining EU law was “necessary” through the “implementation period”. The move heightens criticism levied at the government, that the UK’s formal exit from the EU on 31st March next year will be ‘Brexit in name only’. In a written statement to MP’s, Theresa May announced that she will be leading negotiations with the European Union and has refocused the efforts of the Brexit department on domestic preparations for exiting the EU.
